Sizing a Dumpster for Barn Demolition in Navasota

Tearing down a barn or hay shed in Navasota or rural Grimes County? How we size your dumpster, asbestos & salvage tips. Upfront pricing. Call to book.

Take down an old barn without guessing at the container size. Tell us the structure and what’s coming out, and we’ll size it — our largest container is a 30-yard, and if the job outgrows that, ask us about a second haul. Call (877) 779-2783 to plan your teardown.

Doing It Yourself or Hiring a Contractor

Plenty of landowners in Navasota and rural Grimes County take down an old barn or hay shed themselves. Others hire a demolition contractor for the heavy lifting. Either way, the debris needs somewhere to go.

We drop the container where you need it and haul it when you’re done. Our construction dumpster rental in Navasota is set up for project-scale teardowns like this.

Whichever route you take, check the building for asbestos before demolition starts (more on that below), and check with Grimes County or the City of Navasota about any permit your property needs.

What Size Dumpster Do You Need?

Barns and hay sheds vary too much in footprint and framing for one chart to fit them all — a small hay shed and a two-story dairy barn aren’t the same job. Tell us the dimensions and what’s coming out, and we’ll match it to a container — up to our largest, the 30-yard. If the job outgrows that, ask us about a second haul.

Asbestos vs. Painted Wood

Asbestos-containing material cannot go in the dumpster. Older barns sometimes have cement board siding or roofing that contains asbestos. If you suspect it, have it tested by a licensed inspector. If it’s present, it needs licensed removal and never goes in the roll-off.

Painted wood is ordinary construction debris — with one caveat. Old painted barn boards generally go in the roll-off like any other lumber. The exception is lead paint, which older paint sometimes contains — if you suspect it, the same licensed-testing advice applies before you start tearing into it.

Salvage Before You Dump

Reclaimed barn wood and corrugated metal roofing can often be sold or scrapped rather than dumpstered — it’s worth checking before the rest goes in the container. Either way, it frees up dumpster space, and if it has resale or scrap value, it can offset part of the job.

What Drives the Cost

Barn teardowns vary a lot, so we don’t post one number. The main factors are:

  • Container size. Your quote scales with how big a container the job needs.
  • Weight. Heavy timbers and metal add up.
  • Rental length. A longer teardown may need a longer rental.
  • Number of hauls. A very large structure may need more than one container — ask us.

We explain your rate and how weight is billed before we deliver, so there are no surprises. See our dumpster pricing for the details.

What Can and Can’t Go In

Lumber and general demolition debris can go in. Metal roofing may be worth scrapping first (see above). Asbestos, batteries, and chemicals stay out entirely; tires are a restricted item that may carry an added fee — ask us. Our guide on what can and can’t go in a roll-off has the full list.

The Bottom Line

Check for asbestos, salvage what’s worth saving, and load the rest into a right-sized roll-off. Caleb Barnett’s crew runs Waste Falcon out of College Station and delivers to Navasota. Call (877) 779-2783 or book through our Navasota dumpster service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size dumpster do I need for a barn demolition?

It depends on the structure's size and what's coming out with it. Tell us the dimensions and we'll match it to a container, up to our largest, the 30-yard.

Can asbestos siding or roofing go in the dumpster?

No. If you suspect asbestos, have it tested by a licensed inspector first. If it's present, it needs licensed removal and never goes in the dumpster.

Is barn teardown something I can do myself or do I need a contractor?

Either works. In both cases, check for asbestos before demolition starts.

What should I do with old barn wood or metal roofing before dumpstering the rest?

Sell the boards or scrap the metal first. Less in the container means less weight on your bill.

Do I need a permit to demolish a barn in Grimes County?

Check with Grimes County, or the City of Navasota if you're inside city limits, before you start. They can tell you what applies to your property.
